The past 3 weeks since the last post have flown by. Ethan got his first illness (roseola with a side order of an ear infection) the Wednesday after Easter, and that following week was a blur. He was pretty puny, and his appetite was even decreased, a little, and by the way, he was 26.8 lbs at his sick visit. It took him a full week to return to his normal level of activity (aka, full speed ahead), but we were so thankful to see him back to himself, mischief and all. Yes, our sweet lil' baby frequently now has a gleam of mischievousness in his eyes, whether he's "feeding Milli" from his high chair, removing all his books from his bookshelf, or reaching for anything "off limits", he is definitely testing to see how Mommy and Daddy react, and still keeping us on alert at all times.
He continues to increase his speed of crawling, and frequently beats us across the room, but he has also started taking some steps by himself. Last week he would take 2 independent steps, stand and clap for himself, then drop down and crawl. Now he's up to 4-5 steps at a time, but since he only wants to move in high speed, he either tries to run or just drops down and crawls away, fast as can be. He also has started saying "mamamamama" and even though it's not specific yet, it is still the sweetest sound I've ever heard (and a nice change from dada, ball, and "illi". This past week he also started trying to do the motions to "Itsy Bitsy Spider", and it's definitely his own choreography, but he cracks us and himself up every time he does it!
We are in full party-readiness mode, as this big boy turns 1 on Friday and we celebrate with his party on Saturday, but we did take time out today to go to the zoo with our friends from story time, and Ethan loved it and was such a trooper in the 90 degree heat. We ended zoo day with our first visit to the splash pad. (Thanks to Juliet for some of the splash pad pics; I found it hard to snap pictures while holding E's hand and shielding camera from water...)
Here are a few pictures from the past few weeks and several from our "Zoosday" outing today.

It is truly bittersweet as Friday approaches, and we celebrate Ethan's 1st year of life. It is so exciting, and so amazing to see him accomplish new things everyday, but it does seem like yesterday that we were witnessing the miracle of his birth and coming home with a tiny little bundle who would forever change our lives in more wonderful ways that we had ever imagined. We love him so much, and are so grateful that God chose Ethan to be our son.
